National Registry Advanced EMT

The AEMT course builds on EMT training and prepares students to provide both basic and limited advanced emergency medical care to critically ill and injured patients. AEMTs use a combination of BLS and advanced equipment while functioning under medical oversight.

Program overview

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician course expands upon EMT-level education and prepares students to provide a higher level of assessment and treatment in the prehospital environment. Training includes continued development of BLS skills along with limited advanced emergency care, advanced patient assessment, and the use of additional equipment and interventions appropriate to the AEMT level.

AEMTs provide care and transportation for critical and emergent patients as part of a comprehensive EMS system and serve as an important link between the scene and the emergency healthcare system. For the National Registry full education pathway, candidates must already hold current National Registry certification or state licensure at the EMT level or higher and successfully complete an eligible state-approved AEMT program before attempting National Registry certification.
