National Registry Emergency Medical Technician

The EMT course prepares students to provide basic out-of-hospital emergency medical care and safely transport patients experiencing medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, and other urgent conditions. EMTs are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the healthcare system.

Program overview

The Emergency Medical Technician course provides the knowledge and practical skills necessary to begin working as an entry-level EMS clinician. Students learn comprehensive patient assessment, airway and breathing management, CPR and resuscitation, treatment of medical and traumatic emergencies, patient movement, ambulance operations, and other core components of prehospital emergency care.

EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system under medical oversight and use the basic emergency equipment typically carried on an ambulance. The program prepares eligible students to pursue National Registry EMT certification; National Registry certification itself does not grant the legal authority to practice, which is issued through state licensure.

Audience: EMS clinicians and healthcare professionals
